From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.
Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
