Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
